LV Jenni Baynton transmitting in the Wadden Sea off the Dutch coast May 2010

Radio Seagull is a Progressive & Album Rock station based in The Netherlands, and broadcasting in English 24 hours a day online, as well as on a mediumwave frequency 1602AM 12 hours a day (1900-0700 CET) to Northern Holland andparts of the east coast of England.

NEW from June 2010 – I now have a regular weekly slot on Radio Seagull, and you can listen online via www.radioseagull.com I will be playing the best of classic and progressive album rock, along with a new of new releases, especially from the Irish rock scene.

Times:

UK/Irish time: Saturdays 0600-0800 repeated 1800-2000 (6-8am and 6-8pm)

European time: Saturdays 0700-0900 repeated 1900-2100 (7-9am and 7-9pm)

Along with a sister station Radio Waddenzee, which is a Dutch regional broadcaster using the daytime hours on 1602Khz, Radio Seagull shares the use of the former lightship Jenni Baynton (LV8) normally moored in Harlingen, Netherlands.

Each year the ship goes offshore, and spends a number of weeks broadcasting from an anchorage 8 miles from the coast in the Wadden Sea (Waddenzee) recreating the style of operation of the offshore radio ships of years gone by. During this time Radio Waddenzee and Radio Seagull presenters live and work on board.

I was lucky enough to be invited to join the crew of the Jenni Baynton during its offshore period in May 2010, and below are links to a large number of photos illustrating the ship, the stations, and life on board.
