The latest results show daily radio listening at 85% – that is 85% of all adults listening every weekday. A total of c15,600 people were interviewed during the survey period by Ipsos MRBI, on behalf of JNLR – Joint National Listenership Research – that is funded by all national, regional and local stations, BAI, AAI, and IAPI.
85% of Irish adults listen to the radio on an average day – 58% (=) tuning into their local or regional station and 47% (+1) listening to a national station. Among the younger 15-34 year market 82% listen daily. Irish audiences continue to listen to a significant amount of radio daily – tuning in, on average, for almost 4 hours per day during the prime 7am to 7pm time (Irish Adults listening Mon-Fri).
In terms of share of all minutes listened, national radio has 47.6% share of all minutes (plus 1%) while local/regional radio holds the majority share position with 52.4%.
Looking at the various regions throughout the country, national radio holds the majority share position in Dublin (57.1%), the Dublin Commuter belt (57.7%), the Multi-city areas (52.1%) and the North East/Mid region (51.7%) while local/regional radio is in the majority in the other regions throughout the country. Among the younger, 15-34 year old audience across the country, local/regional radio holds the national majority share position at 62.4% (-1%) versus 37.6% (+1%) for national radio. In particular, the local/regional group holds a strong share position among this age segment in Dublin, 70.5%; Cork, 64.4%; the Multi-city region, 65% and the Dublin Commuter region, 67.6%.
Considering the 35+ age segment, national radio holds the majority share, 51.5% (+1%). In regional markets, national radio maintains a strong share position in Dublin, 68.8%, the Dublin Commuter region, 68.4% and in the Multi-city area, 59.4%. (See T8). Local radio continues to be a strong performer in the individual radio markets across the country – in many areas reaching more than 40% of the local adult population daily (particularly in the south and west) . In Mayo, the Shannonside area and Donegal Nth, more than 50% of the adult population tune in daily. In particular, on the criterion of share of minutes listened during prime 7am to 7pm, Highland Radio, Tipp FM, Radio Kerry, MWR and Shannonside 104FM hold the majority share position in their franchise areas.

FM104 and Phantom gain Dublin audience share in July 2011 JNLRs

The latest JNLR/Ipsos MRBI report into radio listening is published today (28th July, 2011). It covers the 12-month period from July 2010 to June 2011. The latest results show daily radio listening at 85% – that is 85% of all adults listening every weekday. A total of c 15,300 people were interviewed during the survey period by Ipsos MRBI, on behalf of JNLR – Joint National Listenership Research – that is funded by all national, regional and local stations, BAI, AAI, and IAPI.
Looking at the various regions throughout the country, national radio holds the majority share position in Dublin (55%) and the Multi-city area (51%) while local/regional radio is in the majority in other regions.. Among the younger, 15-34 year old audience across the country, local/regional radio holds the national majority share position at 65% (+2%) versus 35% for national radio. Local radio continues to be a strong performer in the individual radio markets across the country – in many areas reaching more than 40% of the local adult population daily (particularly in the south and west) and in Kerry, Mayo, the Shannonside area and Donegal Nth, more than 50% of the adult population tune in daily. In particular, on the criterion of share of minutes listened during prime 7am to 7pm, Highland Radio, Tipp FM, Radio Kerry, MWR and Shannonside 104FM hold the majority share position in their franchise areas.
Listening data for Radio Nova is included in a supplementary volume based on the period since launch – September 2010 to June 2011. In this period, Radio Nova reaches 5% of the population in the Dublin Commuter area, on an average day, and has a share of 3.0% of minutes listened (prime-time 7am-7pm).

May 2011 JNLR (Irish Radio Audience) figures released

The survey results indicated that 85% (same) of the adult population was listening daily to a mix of national, regional, multi-city and local radio throughout the country.
For the purposes of comparison, figures for this survey period are compared with the January 2010 – December 2010 figures.
The main changes and highlights are as follows:
National Reach and Market Share
Listenership of 58% (+1) was recorded to any multi city/regional/local/Dublin commuter radio service.
The weekday reach figures remained unchanged for RTÉ Radio 1 (25%), Today FM (13%), Newstalk (8%) and RTÉ Lyric FM (3%) while RTÉ 2FM recorded a figure of 12% (-1).
With regards to market share, a figure of 53.2% (-0.4) was recorded for any multi city/regional/local/dublin commuter radio service in the 07:00hrs-19:00hrs period
RTÉ Radio 1, Today FM and Newstalk recorded increased in market share at 23.2% (+0.5), 9.5% (+0.2) and 4.1% (+0.1) respectively. RTÉ Lyric FM retained a market share figure of 1.7% while RTÉ 2FM recorded figure of 7.8% (-0.4).
National (excluding Dublin and Cork) local stations
Changes in both reach and market share were recorded for almost all local stations in the current survey period. The top five placed local radio stations for this survey period were as follows:

4FM, the multi-city service, maintained a weekday reach figure of 3% (same) and recorded a market share figure of 1.8% (same).
In terms of regional services, in the north-east/midlands region, i105-107FM retained its reach figure of 9% and increased its market share to 7.3% (+0.3). In the south-west, Spin South West retained its weekday reach figure of 21% and recorded a market share figure of 10.9% (-0.1). In the north-west region, i102-104FM retained is weekday reach figure of 20% and increased its market share to 14.3% (+0.3). In the south-east region, Beat 102-103FM retained a weekday reach figure of 19% and recorded a market share figure of 12.2% (-0.9).
Listening data for Radio Nova is included in a supplementary volume based on the period since launch (September 2010-March 2011). Radio Nova recorded a reach figure of 5% while the station recorded a market share figure of 2.9%.
Dublin local stations
In Dublin, increases in reach figures were recorded for Spin 1038 at 15% (+1) and Q102 at 14% (+1).
FM 104, Sunshine 106.8 and Phantom 105.2 retained weekday reach figures of 20%, 3% and 2% respectively. 98FM recorded a reach figure of 13% (-1).
In terms of market share FM 104 increased its figure to 11.4% (+0.2). Q102 retained its share figure of 11.1% while the remaining stations recorded figures as follows: 98FM 9.0% (-2.6), Spin 1038 6.5% (-0.1), Sunshine 106.8 2.9% (-0.3) and Phantom 105.2 0.7% (-0.1).
Cork local stations
The combined reach of Cork’s 96FM/C103 increased to 49% (+3.0) while a share figure of 45.0% (+3.3) was recorded.
Cork’s Red FM achieved a reach figure of 18% (-1.0) and a market share figure of 10.3% (-0.3).

JNLR FIGURES FOR OCTOBER 2009 – SEPTEMBER 2010 RELEASED
The latest results from the Ipsos MRBI JNLR survey covering the period October 2009- September 2010 were released today (Thursday 28th October 2010).
The survey results indicate that 85% (-1) of the adult population was listening daily to a mix of national, regional, multi-city and local radio throughout the country.
For the purposes of comparison, figures for this survey period are compared with the July 2009- June 2010 figures. The main changes and highlights are as follows:
National Reach and Market Share
Listenership to any multi-city/regional/local radio service remained the same at 58%.
The weekday reach figure for Newstalk increased to 8% (+1) while figures were unchanged for RTÉ Radio 1 at 24%, RTÉ 2FM at 14% and RTÉ Lyric FM at 3%. Today FM recorded a figure of 13% (-1).
With regard to market share, an increased figure of 53.8% (+1.3) was recorded for any multi-city/regional/local station in the 7a.m.-7p.m. period.
Newstalk increased its market share figure to 4.1% (+0.1) while RTÉ Lyric FM retained a share figure of 1.6%. Small decreases were recorded for RTÉ 2FM at 8.7% (-0.6), RTÉ Radio 1 at 22.1% (-0.5), and Today FM at 9.3% (-0.3).

In the north-west region, i102-104 increased its weekday reach figure to 20% (+1.0) and increased its market share figure to 14.7% (+1.1).
In the north-east/midlands area, i105-107FM increased its weekday reach figure to 7% (+1.0) and increased its market share to 5.1% (+1.3).
4FM, the multi-city service, maintained a weekday reach figure of 3% (same) and recorded a market share figure of 1.9% (-0.1).
Dublin-local stations
Weekday reach figures remained the same for several local Dublin stations: FM104 at 19%, 98FM at 14%, Spin 1038 at 14% and Dublin’s Q102 at 13%. The other stations, Country Mix 106.8 FM and Phantom 105.2, recorded figures of 3% and 2% respectively.
In terms of market share figures, increases were recorded for FM104 at 11.5% (+1.8), 98FM at 11.3% (+0.4), Dublin’s Q102 at 11.2% (+0.9) and Spin 1038 at 6.5% (+0.2). Country Mix 106.8FM recorded a figure of 3.1% (-0.2) and Phantom 105.2 recorded a figure of 0.9% (-0.2.
Cork-local stations
Cork’s Red FM achieved a reach figure of 21% (+1) and increased its market share figure to 11.3 (+0.9).
The combined reach of Cork’s 96FM/C103 remained at 48% (same) while a share figure of 43.5 (+0.2) was recorded.
July 2010 JNLR (radio audience) results

JNLR FIGURES FOR July 2009 – June 2010 RELEASED
The latest results from the JNLR/Ipsos MRBI survey covering the period July 2009 – June 2010 were released today (Thursday 29th July).
The survey results indicate that 86% (same) of the adult population was listening daily to a mix of national, regional, multi-city and local radio throughout the country.
For the purposes of comparison, figures for this survey period are compared with the April 2009– March 2010 figures. The main changes and highlights are as follows:
National Reach and Market Share
Listenership to any multi-city/regional/local radio service remained the same at 58%.
Weekday reach figures are unchanged for Today FM (14%), Newstalk (7%) and RTÉ Lyric FM (3%). Slight reductions were recorded for RTÉ Radio 1 at 24% (-1) and RTÉ 2FM at 14% (-1).
With regard to market share, an increased figure of 52.5% (+0.6) was recorded for any multi-city/regional/local station in the 7a.m.-7p.m. period.
Newstalk increased its market share figure to 4.0% (+0.1) while Today FM and RTÉ Lyric FM retained share figures of 9.6% and 1.6% respectively. Small decreases were recorded for the remaining national stations: RTÉ Radio 1 at 22.6% (-0.3) and RTÉ 2FM at 9.3% (-0.4).

Multi-City and Regional stations
Beat 102-103FM, serving the south-east, maintained a weekday reach figure of 19% and recorded a market share figure of 11.5% (-0.6).
In the north-west region, i102-104 maintained a weekday reach figure of 19% and increased its market share figure to 13.6% (+1.7).
Spin South West increased its weekday reach figure to 19% (+1.0) and also increased its market share figure to 10% (+0.2).
In the north-east/midlands area, i105-107FM maintained a daily listenership figure of 6% and increased its market share to 3.8% (+0.2).
4FM, the multi-city service, achieved a weekday reach of 3% (+1) and increased its market share to 2.0% (+0.5).
Dublin-local stations
FM104 continues to have the highest weekday reach of local Dublin stations at 19% (same). Spin 1038FM and Q102 increased their reach by 1% each to 14% and 13% respectively. 98FM achieved a figure of 14% (-1).
Weekday reach figures for the other local Dublin stations remained the same when compared to the previous survey period: Country Mix 106.8 at 4% and Phantom 105.2 at 3% .
In terms of market share figures, 98FM again recorded the highest market share figure of the local Dublin stations at 10.9% (-0.7). Increases in market share figure were recorded for Q102 at 10.3% (+0.9), Spin 1038 at 6.3% (+0.3) and Country Mix 106.8FM at 3.3% (+0.3). The remaining stations FM104 and Phantom FM recorded figures of 9.7% (-0.8) and 1.1% (-0.4) respectively.
Cork-local stations
The combined reach of Cork’s 96FM/C103 was 48% (same) while a share figure of 43.3 (-0.3) was recorded. Separate figures for both services are detailed in the tables provided.
Cork’s Red FM achieved a reach figure of 20% (-1) and increased its recorded share figure to 10.4 (+0.1).

Phantom up in JNLRs

Great news in the latest JNLR audience research -official listenership figures released this afternoon confirm that Phantom 105.2 has increased daily audience by over 13%*
Significantly, Phantom was the only station to increase Weekly Reach* during the survey period and with continued growth the first six months of this year**.
“We are very happy with today’s results” said Ger Roe, Phantom’s CEO, “In July, we unveiled our new breakfast and morning schedule, which were not measured in the current book, and are looking forward to further listenership increases during 2008.”
